Rediscovery

Stephanie Darlene Greenwald is a graphic designer and artist living in Arlington, VA. Originally from Pennsylvania, she graduated from Arcadia University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. In 2002, she began her own graphic design business, which she still runs out of her home today.

In the spring of 2018, Stephanie felt like something was missing from her life. For the first time in more than twenty years, she picked up her art supplies and started drawing and painting by hand again every day. She shared her work on social media and began to connect with artists around the world. Friends and family enthusiastically encouraged her to keep going. Within only a week, it hit her. In the whirlwind of running her business, raising her son and taking care of their home, she had forgotten who she was. All she needed to feel complete again was to bring art back into her life.

After this realization, she spent part of every day connected to the contemporary art world — by taking part in juried art shows in her community, exhibiting in local galleries, binging on podcasts about creativity and engaging online with other artists. She began to notice that her art exemplified a life of mindfulness, and encourages others to take notice of the beauty in their everyday surroundings. When she stumbled upon art licensing, she immediately knew it was the perfect fit. She’s always believed that life feels lighter and brighter when surrounded by beautiful things.

Stephanie’s artwork is currently licensed on home, gift and garden products, sold nationwide. She also sells prints and cards of her work online and in local galleries, and is a member of Del Ray Artisans and The Art League in Alexandria, VA. Stephanie continues to run her graphic design business while expanding her career into art licensing and product design.

Steph Greenwald Illustration has changed its name to Stephanie Darlene.

Yep, that’s my middle name. Honestly, it feels more “me”. Because last names can change. Sometimes more than once. And that can lead to a sort of identity crisis. But this middle name? It’s been forever engrained in my memory to describe my core being. I will always hear my mother’s voice, bellowing from another room, or whispering in exasperation under her breath, when I did — or didn’t do —something she felt was .... “remarkable.” I actually never liked my middle name, and always wanted something prettier and less harsh — like Lily or Anne — but now I’m embracing its awkward uniqueness.

As I venture into the world of illustration as part of my design career, I felt the need to use a name that fully encapsulated who I am and the art I make. Because both of these things will forever be a part of me.
